The London Nights Movie website is dedicated to screenwriting, screenwriters and anyone with an interest in cinema and film-making. It seeks to encourage an exchange of ideas and services for all those interested in story, drama, film and alternative strategies for cinema and television production.

The approach taken is experimental in that it will explore how the internet can be used to promote a screenplay and to drive the production process. It is intended to build a community of interest around the project that will also serve as a basis for future distribution of the completed film. I will try out ideas such as a filmed read-through of the play, obtaining feedback from users of the site, which is open to improvement by anyone interested. Rather than talking in the abstract, I am throwing my own recent screenplay, London Nights, into the fray. It is in its third draft and can be downloaded from the site.

The story is an erotic thriller in a magic realist style. Kurt is a young man about to leave Ireland to study in England when he hooks up with Maebh, an older woman lodging at his parents B&B. She is making an art film that takes them on a road trip from the ancient megaliths of the Celtic fringe to the beating heart of bohemian London. He is initiated into shamanic practices and concepts such as the nagual (or the numinous), lucid dreaming and chaos magick. Kurt’s journey into manhood brings him into some close scrapes with death, a dreamtime battle with an Incubus and the pain of sexual jealousy. He has a pretty good time too, though, and this helps with the pangs of leaving home.

In the blog I talk about the themes in the story, the process of writing the script and I keep a log of my progress as I develop, promote, produce and distribute it. The message board will be a forum for communication, feedback and review.

The site will also serve as a platform for the work of others, whether they are writing, acting, directing, producing, reviewing or involved in any other aspect of film-making or film studies or appreciation.

The services section provides information on script reports, script analysis and script mentoring and doctoring. Web design is also offered for the film-making community or for anyone who wants to get their creative output “out there”. I also offer translation services for writers in other languages who want access to the English language market.
As interest in the site develops, other services such as filmed read-throughs, show reels and agency services for writers and actors will also be offered. The site will also be available for those who wish to advertise related services and products.
